CTC President's Report - March 2022

Swim, Bike, Run & Smile

Sponsors:

This month we want to highlight our Silver sponsor Merrell Irwin & Associates.  They offer discounts on tax preparation to CTC members as well as valuable tax and budget tracking for the club finances.

Strava Competition/Athlete of the Month:

We will be holding a monthly contest for members only. We will utilize the Strava data in helping to pick the Athlete of the Month. The time frame will be from the 1st day of the month until midnight of the last day of the month. You will have to send in your completed training log to https://www.strava.com/clubs/ChicoTriClub by the 2nd of the next month.

AOTM for March is Jenni Merrell for her intensive winter double Duathlon.

Training:

Swims:

One Mile open water swims will return Spring 2022.

In Motion pool is open.

The River Road TTs:   

The first time trial of the season will be April 7 @ 6:01PM.  Sign ups start at 5:30 PM. Meet where 5th St turns into River Road Southwest of town.  The course is 10 miles long, five miles out and back. Helmets required! Free and open to all abilities.

Rides:

Wednesday night hill repeats are replaced by the Fast, Fit and Fun 50 Ride Series.  Meet at Rosedale Elementary School at 5:30 PM every Wed. 

The Friday Rides:

Email Shawn Hughes at amigohughes@gmail.com if you are interested in receiving notices of ride date and times. These rides will return in the Spring.

Runs: 

The Saturday Beginner LSD run is a beginner run going for up to 60 minutes. Meet at the 5-Mile Recreation Area near the bathrooms. Pay attention to the Facebook posts for updates. 

The Monday Night Run is now the TUESDAY Night Run: It is posted on Facebook weekly.  This run currently meet at 5:30 at One Mile near the bathrooms on the North side of Sycamore Pool.

CTC Track Workout:

Currently Thursday track meetings are at 5:45 PM at the Chico State track. There is a charge for parking.  Parking passes can be obtained at the kiosk or through the Passport phone ap. Updates to the track location and any other info are made on the Facebook page.

Black Butte Tri/DU:

Save the date the BBT is scheduled for June 11, 2022.

Several people have reached out for registration.  Currently registration is closed. Many people still hold registrations from the previous year when it was cancelled. We will notify club members first when or if we are able to add participants. 

Race Results:

This is a shout out to anybody who has participated in a recent race. We would love to hear from you. Please send me any information on a race you have participated in.

This could be as simple as your name and the name of the event, your results or a race report outlining your personal experience.

Wednesday Night Hill Repeats resumed on November 10th. Helmets and lights required. Will take place every Wednesday night until the time changes in March. Rain always cancels. All abilities welcome. Original plan developed by Mike Trowbridge. Now organized by Steve Twist, Evan Billman, Eric Ayars, and Greg Watkins.

Coach Mike’s Cal Park Hills – Winter 2021-2022

Wednesday Nights, 6:00 PM Roll Out from North Rim As ALWAYS these workouts are FREE and open to everyone... and ALL abilities... Meet Wednesday night(s) at North Rim Adventure Sports... We roll out at 6:00 PM. Same MO as in years past... Warm up out through the park and over to CA Park... do the planned workout then cool down back through the park. The whole training session is about 1-1½ hour time frame. All abilities are welcome. Less experienced riders can simply do fewer laps if desired. A head light and helmet are definitely needed... Although the streets are fairly well lit, and traffic is low. ALSO... A cadence meter is very helpful. Rain always cancels.

Special Achievements:

Congratulation to Greg Watkins for achieving USAT All American and All World Athlete, Bronze level. Congratulations to Joanne Gilchrist for achieving USAT All American status.

To achieve USAT All American status, an athlete must first be ranked. This requires finishing at least 3 sanctioned races for triathlon OR 2 races for other disciplines, AND finishing among the Top 10%of all ranked athletes nationwide within their age group. All World Athlete (AWA) status is given to the athletes in each age group with the top 10% of AGR points, with the top 1% earning AWA Gold Status, the top 5% earning AWA Silver Status, and the top 10% earning AWA Bronze Status.
