This month, we are highlighting our Platinum Level Sponsor -

Losi Dermatology

Jacqueline Losi, M.D. has been a long-time supporter of the Chico Triathlon Club.  Jacqueline is a well-respected dermatologist and is not accepting new clients… Unless you are a member of the Chico Triathlon Club.  I can tell you from personal experience that Jacqueline has a great “bedside manner” and has provided terrific care for me over the last several years.  If you are looking for a high-quality dermatologist, I highly recommend Jacqueline and her team..

Great News on the Training Front!!!

Eric Ayars Winter/Spring 2025 Training Program:

Our own Eric Ayars, has started a training group/program that will be facilitated through the “CTC Training” page on Facebook.

The current Target Race is the Folsom Lake International Triathlon on May 10, 2025.  The secondary target is the Black Butte Triathlon on June 14th.  The training group is open to all CTC members, and workouts will be targeted at international distances.  Regardless of the race you are training for, plugging into this group will be helpful for your training in 2025.

I highly recommend you check out the CTC Training group for details.

Sponsors:

This month we are highlighting our Silver Level Sponsor Under the Sun Events

Under The Sun Events provides Race Timing, Race Management, Race Consulting and Fundraising for events around Northern California.   The three primary races they put on are the Frost or Fog, Trail Less Traveled, and Paradise Trail Runs.  They do a great job putting on high quality events and they also do the timing for the Black Butte Triathlon.  Thank you UTSE for being such a great presence in our community!

End of Season Party – SAVE THE DATE

October 17th from 6-9 pm

The club will hold a “End of the Season Summer Party on Thursday, October 17th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.   Current club members will receive an Evite with additional details. Contact membership@chicotriathlonclub.com if you have any questions about your membership status.

 Athlete of the Month:

August’s Athlete of the Month is Joanne Gilchrist!  Jo is the leader of our Tuesday night runs and the Friday morning seasonal swims at Sycamore Pool.  Jo is a prolific triathlete often finishing on the podium.  She recently won the TBF Tri for Real series championship by coming in first place in all three races this summer.  She also can be found out there doing epic fundraiser bike rides and she is a tremendous resource for new triathletes and new members to the club.  Jo is a extraordinary athlete and an even better person.  If you ever have the chance to spend a bit of time with her, you will not regret it.

Black Butte Triathlon

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and raced the Black Butte Triathlon.

This event is one of our club's key focus areas, and we all know that many hands make light work.  We are asking for additional people to help with the BBT Planning Committee. The event has been a great success, with 2024 being our best year yet.

If you like BBT as much as I do and want to ensure we can continue to make it happen, please consider helping with the planning committee. Please email the BBT Race Director, Shawn Hughes at amigohughes@gmail.com as soon as possible and ideally before 10/31/2024.

Thank you again for giving your time and effort to this event.

Volunteer Opportunity:

The club has not identified any current volunteer opportunities.  We will update you as those opportunities present themselves.

 Moving Forward

Triathlon is hard enough as a sport, and we want the Chico Triathlon Club to support our members as best it can. Over the years, the club has done a lot of different things and done them well. This comes at a cost—mostly the cost of our volunteers' time and energy. Therefore, we are going to work toward doing fewer things better. We would like to make sure that all of our members are enjoying the benefits of the club and nobody is getting “overworked” so we are going to try to focus our efforts on the things that matter most to our club.  If you are interested in giving feedback/input or sharing your ideas about the direction of the club, please let me know.  You can email me at president@chicotriathlonclub.com.

The Chico Triathlon Club would like to congratulate our own Jack English on the completion of his Eagle Scout Project!  This project was a Bike Repair Station located at the Honey Run Covered bride.  If you haven’t been out there in a while, I would suggest stopping by to take a look.  It is a great resource for our community and the CTC is happy to have supported Jack in this effort.

Introduction to the New President

While we are all missing Greg Watkins, and he leaves big shoes to fill, I, Justin Waller, have agreed to step in as interim club president.

For those of you who do not know me, I have been part of the Chico Tri Club since 2010.  I have served on the board for most of that time and thoroughly enjoy working with this special group of people.

I am a mid-pack athlete (on a good day) and enjoy training more than “racing.”  I have completed 6 Iron Distance races and try to complete one 70.3 distance race every year.  This keeps me training and keeps me off the sofa.

I look forward to seeing you all out there training and racing.

May the waters be clear, the wind be at your back and keep the rubber side down.
