Happy Spring Forward and thanks for checking out the monthly President’s report. Items of note this month are a great volunteer turnout for the Chico Downtown Criterium, the first Time Trial of the year, and a date for the club’s Practice Triathlon at Black Butte Lake. But first off, an acknowledgement of one of our sponsors:
Sponsors:
This month we are highlighting our Platinum level sponsor
Mom’s / The Bear
Chico Downtown Criterium
A sincere thank you to the 15 club members that came out Sunday March 10th to volunteer for the Chico Downtown Criterium. The organizers were grateful for the club’s support of this community event.
First River Road 10 Mile Time Trial
The club puts on Time Trials the first Thursday of each month during daylight savings time. First up this year is Thursday April 4th. It starts where 5th Street leaves town heading west and becomes River Road. Sign-ups begin at 5:30 PM and the first rider leaves at 6:01 PM. Helmets are required an all ability levels and bike types are welcome. Several club members usually gather afterward at Allies Pub where the club will buy your first round.
Practice Triathlon at Black Butte Lake Sunday June 2nd
The club will once again hold a practice triathlon at Black Butte Lake. Any club member (or perspective member) is welcome to join us. We’ll go over transition setups and will have guided swim, bike, and run training events on portions of the Black Butte Triathlon course. This is a great opportunity for those newer to the sport to prepare for the club’s race on June 15th.
Race Results
Did you know that CTC member multisport race results are archived on the CTC Website all the way back to the club’s origin in 2010? New results for 2024 include Jenni at the TBF New Year's Duathlon and new members Aidan and Lucas at the Stanford Treeathlon.
The Uniform Store is Open
The Chico Triathlon Club Uniform Store at Voler is now open. The store closes April 15th and uniforms will ship by the end of May... Just in time to wear your fancy new kit for the Black Butte Triathlon! https://www.voler.com/custom/ordering/li/48349
CTC branded shirts and apparel can be ordered anytime through Squadlocker.
Athlete of the Month:
This month’s AOTM is new member Lucas Ferguson who raced the Stanford Treeathlon on March 3rd.
Volunteer Opportunity:
The club’s next Volunteer Opportunity is our own Black Butte Triathlon on June 15th. Use the Volunteer Link to sign up to help out with the race. Note that it’s possible to both race and volunteer for this event.
Training:
Swims:
The Friday Morning One Mile open water swims will resume after Memorial Day.
Rides:
River Road Time Trials: The Thursday River Road Time Trial will return on Thursday April 4th. A HUGE THANK YOU to Eric Ayars for running the events the past several years.
Wednesday 50s: The Wednesday 50s are community group rides that leave from Rosedale Elementary school every Wednesday during daylight savings time. The “Fit 50” and “Fun 50” depart at 5:30 PM and the “Fast 50” leaves at 6:00 PM. Group rides are a great way to improve your fitness and bike handling skills and the Fun 50 is the one best suited to newer riders.
Jenni’s Sunday Ride: Jenni Merrell often leads a no-drop Sunday Ride. Check the CTC Facebook page for updates.
Runs:
Saturday Morning Runs: The Saturday morning runs meet at Five Mile Recreation Area near the bathrooms. There’s an 8:00 AM “dog” run and a slower paced run that leaves at 9:00 AM. Check the CTC Facebook page for updates and starting times.
Tuesday Night Run: The Tuesday night run meets at One Mile (northside) at 5:30 PM. Check the CTC Facebook page for updates and starting times.
