CTC October Update

Hi CTCr's,

I apologize for the long gap between updates.  I will try to do better in the future.  :)

Mark your calendars

Jersey Ride - Sunday October 26th - at 9:00am

This is a very recreational 15-17 mph cruising opportunity to hang out with your fellow CTCr's and then have some brunch at Mom's. Please wear your CTC gear as we will also be taking the team photo for our sponsors. This ride will be lead by our own Greg Watkins and will be a fun spin around Chico.

Year end party - Saturday November 22nd - Time TBD

Our year end party this year is being organized by Jennifer Moore and Tony English. Look forward to some great information pending.

Board Elections - If you would like to step up your involvement with the club in any way, you are welcome. If you are interested in being on the Board of Directors, look forward to some communications from Tony English. The elections are held at the Year-end party, but there is a little bit of work to get your name on the ballot.

Launch Party - January 8th - Time TBD

Our launch party next year will be at Fleet Feet in downtown Chico, but will be a little earlier in the year. We are hoping to introduce the sport of triathlon to a whole new group of people looking to start off the new year with a goal of completing a triathlon. So please mark your calendars and let your friends know. Most of have a few friends that have always wanted to do a triathlon. Lets help them make 2015 an exciting year and invite them to the party.

Recent Racing:

The Chico Tri Club was well represented at the inaugural Challenge Rancho Cordova on October 5th. Our ladies team "U Got Chicked" came in 1st with an amazing combination of Becky Hutchinson, JoAnne Gilchrist on the Bike and Jacqueline Sasaki on the Run.

Jim Peplow came in 3rd in his age group.  As Jim has only recently started triathlon, we are looking forward to some great performances from Jim in the future.  Not the least of which will be running the Boston Marathon in April. (Way to go Jim!!)

Sean Molina came in 4th in his age group at Ironman Silverman 70.3 on October 5th. I have heard rumors of how hard this course is and I am looking forward to hearing some stories from Sean sometime soon. As many of you know, this was a "make-up" race for Sean after the canceled Ironman Lake Tahoe. Way to go!!

We had several members compete in the first ever Loco Relay (200 mile relay run) and yes, Loco sounds like the right name. From all reports, it sounds like a good time was had by all and many are looking forward to doing it next year.

Check out our results page for several other racers including:

70.3 World Championships - Michael Daily and Jacqueline Sasaki

All the times from CTC at the Granite Bay Triathlon

USAT Sprint Nationals - Margaret Bomberg

USAT National Championships - Mary Anne Bachus and Kyle Fox

Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens - Jason Berry and Mike Cordova

Mid Summer Sprint Triathlon - Darren Otten

Tri for Fun August - Michael Cordova, Mike Marvier, Karen English and Tony English

Du for Fun August - Steve Brusig

Donner Lake Olympic - Greg Watkins, Joanne Gilchrist and Tammie Watkins and

Barb's Race - Becky Hutchinson

These were the results that were submitted to or tracked down by our web guru and results detective, Greg Watkins. If anyone racing triathlons was missed, please let Greg know. And while you are at it, you can thank Greg for the AWESOME job he does keeping the website up to date... THANKS, GREG!

Upcoming Racing:

Greg Watkins will be racing on Sunday at the Golden State Triathlon. It is Northern California's only draft legal race (to my knowledge) and is a ton of fun. Good luck, Greg!

Also, if you happen to find yourself with some free time on Saturday, it is the Ironman World Championships at Kona, Hawaii. The best of the best long course triathletes battling it out for glory and many, many age groupers continuing or accomplishing a dream. You can get to the live feed from ironman.com.

Club News:

The Chico Tri Club has "officially" welcomed Ray Bransky and several young athletes as the "Team Pride" group. Ray is leading a BEGINNER group ride on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 6:00 leaving from the Chico Junior High bike racks. If you are interested in helping some young, beginner athletes, please feel free to join them for a ride.

We are very excited to open the door of cycling and triathlon to young people in our community and are very happy to help support Ray in his efforts there.

Your board is also working diligently on several other ideas, programs and tweaks for next year. Look forward to exciting news coming to you over the "off" season.

Volunteering Opportunities:

If you are interested in participating in some fun local events and activities, look out for communications to come out about volunteering soon.

Until next time...

Swim, Ride, Run and have some fun.

Justin

Mid July 2014 Update

Hello fellow CTCr's!

We are fully in the swing of summer. I hope all of you are happy, healthy and your training is going well.

Let's begin by welcoming four of our newest members:

Margaret Bomber,

Edward Wilson,

Samantha Cosentino and

Ray Bransky

Welcome to the Chico Triathlon Club!!! I look forward to seeing you out and about!

Recent Races

There has been a lot of racing going on this summer.

Recent races since our last update include Vineman 70.3, Tri for Real, Tri for Fun Du for Fun, and Graeagle Sprint/Olympic.

Congratulations to all the triathletes out there doing their best!

You can check out recent race results here - http://www.chicotriathlonclub.com/results/.

Josh Rowe also had a really nice race report from Vineman 70.3 that has been posted to the website (and a couple other places). If you haven't read it already, give it a look.

If I missed anyone, please let me know!

Upcoming events:

Barb's Race Our own Beck y Hutchinson will be racing at Barb's race this weekend. Barb's is part of the Vineman series and is a Women's only triathlon that raises funds for cancer research.   If you are interested in learning more/participating in the future, you can find information here: http://www.vineman.com/Barb_s_Race.htm

Otherwise... Go Becky, GO!!!!

This weekend will also be the Donner Lake Tri. I know Joanne Gilchrist will be competing at Donner this week, and we may have other racers out there as well.

Good luck to everyone!!

Mark your Calendars:

The Granite Bay Sprint Distance Club Championship is only 30 days away. This is the last "official" club race of the year and CTC will reimburse up to $70 of the entry fees for the first 35 racers to request it. (Check out the website for details.)

If you haven’t signed up yet, get on it! Every athlete finishing the race counts towards points for our club to win the championship!! You don't have to be on the podium to help the club, you just have to finish. :) As of last count we have several available reimbursement spots left.

Thank you:

I would say thank you to all the CTC Board members.  Stepping up and helping support our sport and our community is a great thing.  It is often a thankless job to be an unpaid volunteer, but not today.

THANK YOU - Shawn Hughes, Jason Berry, Jennifer Moore, Greg Watkins, Sean Molina, Laura Van dervoort, Tony English and Jim Hanna!

If you see one of these folks out and about, please take a moment to thank them for all the work they are doing.  This club would not exist without their tireless efforts.

In addition to the standard tri stuff, the CTC Board is hard at work on several additional projects.  There are several exciting changes going on in our club and in our local community.  We are still working to finalize these, but there is some great news on the horizon.

Don't forget to check out the group workout schedule here. You can connect up with some local and like-minded folks.

Join the conversations on our yahoo group at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/chicotriathlonclub/info

and at our Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/296289680516/

Until next time...Swim, ride, run and have some fun!!
