CTC April 2014 Update

Recent Events:

We had a good turnout at the club General Meeting with some very informative conversations. Thanks go out to everyone that came out, everyone that contributed, and to the Bear for letting us camp out upstairs for a while.

Upcoming events:

Ice breaker Triathlon - the Ice Breaker triathlon is Sunday April 6th. CTC will have several athletes down there representing our club.

If you are not racing, send some good thoughts towards Granite Bay Sunday morning!

If you are racing - do your best and have a great time!

Recent Race Results:

Greg Watkins had an outstanding performance at the Chico Stage Race

17th in RR, 21st in TT, 28th in the Criterium and was the only racer I know who also ran the Downtown mile, winning his age group with a 5:26.

Michael Daily race Oceanside 70.3 and finished 11th in his age group with a 4:42. Officially the fastest half iron distance finish of our club members this year.

Jeriamee Leeman raced at Xterra Real 2014 It looked like fun, but I couldn't find the results :(

Also of note, friend of the club and professional triathlete Matt Lieto also raced Oceanside and finished 14th overall with a time of 4:07:07.

Gear Request:

We have a new member that is looking to get started with triathlon, but needs some help with gear. She is approximately 5'5" (likely size small) and is looking for a wetsuit and a bicycle to borrow. If you have some gear you can share that could work, please let me know!

It is getting warmer and Summer is right around the corner... Check out the group workout schedule here.

Until next time...Swim, ride, run and have some fun!!

CTC Mid March 2014 Update

Hello CTCr's

The triathlon season in Chico is off to a great start!

Thanks go out to Simply Results Physical Therapy for hosting the local athlete development clinic this past weekend with 212 In Motion.  Sounds like there was some good energy and great information going around.  We are looking forward to more in the near future.

The first "official" club track workout -

Thanks to everyone that made it out on Thursday night.  We had a great crowd of approximately 14 members of our club out there getting better by the lap.  We look forward to seeing everyone out there at some point.

Mark your calendar!

Our club General meeting will be held upstairs at the Bear at 2:00 this Saturday March 22nd.  Please come a few minutes early and grab your food and beverages before 2:00 if you can.  We have a great agenda lining up with some very informative sessions.  We look forward to seeing you all there.

The on-line store-

The CTC Gear store has been reopened for March 17th ONLY!!  The store closes at 10:00pmtonight.  If you are interested in getting gear in on this first order, you should get on it ASAP! Check your email for instructions.  The projected delivery date from Champion Systems for the first order is May 1st.

Chico Stage Race: (Per Greg Watkins)

Our friends at the Chico Corsa Cycling Club are putting on a great local event this weekend (March 22-23), the Chico Stage Race. CTC has supported this event in the past with both racers and volunteers. The signature events are the criteriums that run all daySunday in downtown Chico, except for a break during the Downtown Mile. The crits require a huge number of volunteers, and are also really cool to watch. So if you don't have plans for Sunday, consider signing up for a volunteer shift (you can sign-up on their website). You'll be helping out a great local bike racing club and will have a front row seat for some fantastic bike racing. There is a volunteer meeting Tuesday March 18th, 6:00 PM at Mountain Mike’s Pizza at Nord and 5th Street.

Granite Bay Club Championship -

Race reimbursements brought to you by - Simply Results Physical Therapy, Mom's/The Bearand Losi Dermatology.

The list of registrants for the tri club championships is growing quickly.  If you are planning on doing this race, please register and get your registration information to our treasurer Jason Berry as soon as possible.  The easiest way to do this is to forward your email confirmation totreasurer@chicotriclub.com.  For additional details, click here -http://www.chicotriathlonclub.com/documents/2014_granite_bay_reimbursement.pdf

Mentors -

Many thanks go out to our club mentors - Kristi Ayars, Becky Hutchison, Tammy Watkins, Laura Van Dervoort and Jason Berry.  If you are interested in sharing some of your knowledge/experience with other local triathletes, please contact Laura.

Gear Sharing -

We also have a new gear sharing program this year.  If you are interested in borrowing some gear or have some to lend, please let me know.  We currently have 4 bikes, 3 wetsuits, and a hard case travel bike box.

2014 Summer Workout Schedule (effective during Daylight Savings Time)

The summer workout schedule has now been posted to the Workouts page of the website.

Please keep in mind that the Black Butte Triathlons (our first club race) are only 3 months away!!

And for your viewing and listening pleasure... check out the triathlon song.  This might help you get rolling in the morning...

Until next time...

Swim, Ride, Run and have some fun,

Track Workouts Kickoff Thursday March 13th

Hello CTCers,

With Spring only two weeks away, daylight savings this Sunday, and some of the year's first triathlon races right around-the-corner, it is time to "kick-off" the CTC Track Workouts on Thursday March 13, 5:45 PM at the PV High School track.  Early next week I will send out detailed information about the time frames of each aspect of the workout and what those elements entail. There will be links to many YouTube videos that demonstrate the drills we'll be offering, and recommended stretch routines.

I would highly encourage all levels of runners to come out and benefit from this low-key and fun workout session. I promise you you'll enjoy the company, camaraderie, and encouragement from some really neat folks :) You are more than welcome to do your own workout, or you could ask me for one.

So here you go people!...the smell of a big, green, sunny, grass field with warm-gentle breezes, the energized voices of some very motivated and healthy people in movement, moving that much closer to their athletic goals and dreams. And remember, you don't have to kill yourself to benefit from the track. Even if you just did the Warm-Up/Stretch/Drills portions and then brought out your best "running self" for a couple of laps around the track, you'd benefit greatly...I promise! :)

You get in, get out, and you GET BETTER!...a very high value workout indeed!
