CTC Update for the Week of 9/9

Happy training for the week of 9/9.

Tinman:  We had our usual strong turnout for Tinamn again this year, with 17 racers and several more family members and spectators.  Participants included Greg W., Bryan S., Nathan B., David W., Al M., Jim P., Jeriamee L., Dina R., Tammie W., Becky H., Karen E., Tony E., Elda M., Alyson D., Laura V., Victoria U., and Shawn H.  The organizers were once again grateful for the support CTC gives their event.  There were some crazy IMLT training rides before the race, lots of good competition (and podium results) on the course, and plenty of pie to go around at the Blackberry Music Festival after the race.  Condos are already booked for next year, so mark your calendars for the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.  CTC member results have been posted to the Results page of the website.

More Races:  The English family was at it again this past weekend, with Tony and Maya English racing the SuperMAN and SuperKIDS triathlons respectively.   Results have been posted to the Results page of the website.

Ironman Lake Tahoe:  Ironman Lake Tahoe takes place on Sunday September 22nd and will feature five CTC members stepping up to the Ironman distance (Blake Anderson, Rick Ellison, Bryan Slinkard, Justin Waller, and Greg Watkins).  Many more members will be traveling to Tahoe to volunteer and/or spectate.  New this year, the Ironman organizers have started a tri club program, with special benefits for those who are members of tri clubs.  They are setting up a Tri Club Village that's on the run course  very close to the finish line.  Clubs can set up their pop-ups and use it as a base for their members who are racing, volunteering, or spectating.  They are also planning a post race club-only beer garden with chili (veggie and meat) from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM.  The village will be set up at Squaw Valley beginning Saturday after the Ironkids races.  The club coordinator has asked for an RSVP so they can be sure to have enough chili and beer on hand.  I have already sent them the names of the racers, but would like to get a head count of others who are planning to be there.  So if you're heading to Tahoe, please send an email to president@chicotriahtlonclub.com with the following information:  Who's coming, where and what nights you are staying, and whether or not you plan to be at the Tri Club Village on race day.  Once I have all the information, I'll send out a summary just to that group in case anyone wants to connect ahead of time.  Please let me know by Friday 9/13.

Golden State Triathlon:  This race has become a bit of a tradition for several CTC members as a final race to wrap up the season.  It's a draft-legal event with sprint and super sprint distances, and is held at Discovery Park in downtown Sacramento on October 13th.  The draft-legal format is unique for age group racing, and the post-race beer garden is well known.  Registration is $90 up until race day.

CTC Update for the Week of 8/26

Happy training for the week of 8/26.

Granite Bay: Congratulations go out to Kyle Fox for his overall win and fastest run split at the Granite Bay Triathlon on Sunday.  Mike Marvier and Alison Diaz also raced, as did the winning coed relay team "Salt & Pepper" made up of Karen English, Laura Van Dervoort, and Mitch Harrell.  Results have been posted to the Results page of the website.

Tinman:  CTC's favorite club race, the Mount Shasta Tinman, takes place this Sunday, September 1st at the Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort.  We always have a huge turnout at this family friendly event, and enjoy the post race fun almost as much as the race itself.  Several members are either camping or staying in cabins at the resort, and we'll have the red CTC pop-up set up adjacent to the transition area, as usual.  Feel free to bring some post race food and drink to share with your fellow club members, and plan on sticking around for the Blackberry Music Festival which takes place from Noon to Six at Mt. Shasta City Park on race day.  You might see the red CTC pop-up at the festival as well.

Note that Tinman registration closes on Thursday, and as of this writing, they still have about 50 spots left.  So if you're planning to race, fill out your registration form now and send it in.  According to the website, you can complete the PDF form online and email it to them.

Final Friday Swim:  Wally's Friday Morning Swim Workouts will conclude this Friday, 7:00 AM at One Mile (meet on the north side of the pool).  The swim workouts traditionally end when the city stops cleaning the pool after Labor Day.  Thanks to Wally and Justin for all the time they put into coaching the workouts this summer, and for helping everyone out with their swim stroke.

CTC Update for the Week of 8/12

Happy training for the week of 8/12.

CTC Training Camp at Lake Almanor: The first ever CTC Training Camp wrapped up this past Sunday.  A special thank you goes out to Susan and Wally Marshall for donating the house for the event.  Thanks also to Rick Ellison for running the training aspect of the camp, and for some great video analysis of everyone's swim stroke.  Thanks also to Shawn Hughes for bringing his boat, which offered some R&R breaks from the training, including a great water taxi ride to dinner on Saturday night.  There was excellent open water swimming from the dock, some great riding around the lake and up to Mount Lassen, and a fabulous, shaded 10+ mile running trail easily accessed from the house.  While it has not yet been decided if another camp will be held next year, please email me directly (president@chicotriathlonclub.com) if you would like to be part of a planning committee that would be formed if another camp is going to be organized.

Races: Omitted from the last update, Mitch Harrell also competed in the August 4th  Tri for Real at Rancho Seco.  Sorry for the omission.

Ironman on TV:  In case you missed it, KNVN 24 will be re-airing the 2012 IRONMAN World Championship on Sunday, August 25th at 10:30 AM.
