I am running to seek the honorable position as a member of the Chico Triathlon Club’s (CTC) Board of Directors. I am a charter member of CTC. I’ve been on the board for about 1 year. In that time, my goal has been to first and foremost build relationships with the amazing athletes that are members of CTC and with the dedicated, giving, and generous board members.
During this next term, my plan is to assist CTC’s Board and member activities in any way possible. My focus is to understand and assist novice triathletes. I am particularly interested in assisting these triathletes by: 1) identifying members needs and then proposing relevant activities to meet those needs (which also enhance the club’s value), 2) suggest training that covers needs for the novice triathlete (e.g. biometrics of running and pedaling, bike mechanics, how to make smart purchases of equipment, etc.), 3) encourage knowledgeable triathletes to share their knowledge and experiences, and especially 4) develop training opportunities that assist beginning triathlete to enhance their confidence and mental skills.
I will also focus on the financial aspect of the club by ensuring that our expenditures are prudent and necessary. I will clearly support all activities that generate new revenues.
Thank you for your considering my interests in serving CTC’s Board of Directors.
I moved to Chico in August of 2012 to start nursing school. I promptly searched the Internet and found the amazing CTC. I had only competed in 1 sprint triathlon in 2011. I received emails and updates from CTC for months and was always too timid to join any activities. In the spring I went to my first Monday night run and track practice. I was overwhelmed with how welcomed I was. CTC members encouraged and taught me, and friendships were built. I did my first olympic triathlon 6 weeks later. The next season (this summer) I did my first 70.3 with lots of motivation, encouragement and guidance from CTC members.
I grew up primarily a swimmer and swim coach, running was my second sport. Cycling is my challenge area. Now that I have finished nursing school, I have chosen to stay in Chico to be part of this amazing club. Chico Triathlon Club is my favorite thing about Chico. I am now an RN at Enloe and I am ready to give back to the club that helped me through school and helped me discover my true passion for this sport. I enjoy training and have a degree in nutrition. I hope to bring some of my swimming skills, positive attitude and motivation to CTC.
I am new to the Chico area from Kansas City, MO and this is the first group I looked up when planning my move to find like-minded people who enjoy Triathlon as much as I do. The members have been so welcoming and I'm excited about getting involved in any capacity.
I decided to put my name on the ballot because I think I bring a unique marketing expertise that could really help the club grow and enhance the membership experience. I come from the soccer industry and worked for five years at a 30,000 member organization for soccer coaches. I am passionate about making a difference for organizations who help others achieve their goals. I look forward to contributing to CTC in any way that I can and hope to meet some great people along the way. Swim. Bike. Run. -Kristine
This year has been very enjoyable serving as secretary for the CTC board. It is a priority for me and I am proud to say I have never missed a board meeting. Even before serving on the board, I helped out at multiple launch parties and general meetings. I opened up my home for club events, such as the end of the year party, board meetings and committee meetings. I have served on the uniform committee and the outreach committee. Because I volunteered to take a one year term, I feel that I am just starting to really contribute to the club. I am seeking the opportunity to serve a full two year term.
I have been around CTC since 2009, but I officially joined in 2010 as a complete beginner. I do not have an athletic background. Prior to CTC, I had only been running for about a year, had never been on a road bike, and had never swum in open water. The club helped me grow from never having done a triathlon to competing in a half-ironman. I value the friendships and support that I get from the club. I believe that the biggest asset to CTC is the camaraderie we have created and I will continue to work to keep this a priority. Currently we have all levels of athlete represented on our board, novice to elite. I hope that you will allow me to continue to be the voice of someone that is new to the sport and this level of training in general.
Please accept my candidacy for re-election to the CTC board. I am a founding member of the club and have been a board member since its inception. I have served as President and Vice President, and currently coordinate membership and the website. I am passionate about the club, have dedicated many, many hours to its service, and hope to continue to do so.
I am also passionate about the sport and am currently planning my 28th consecutive season of racing triathlons. I have raced in a dozen different states and two foreign countries. I have raced Nationals, Worlds, and an Ironman. But something changed for me in 2010, after twenty-two years on the sport. That was the first year of the Chico Triathlon Club.
Our first real race as a club was the inaugural Black Butte Triathlon in April 2010. It was cold, rainy, windy, and pretty much a miserable day to do a triathlon. Twelve of us braved the elements to race that day, but many more came out just to cheer us on despite the awful conditions. I still remember coming out of the water, hearing my name cheered from the sidelines and thinking, these people are nuts to be standing around in weather like this.
While the club has changed and grown since that time, the camaraderie and shared spirit of the sport have not. I am extremely proud of what we've built, and hope to continue to serve as a board member of this great organization.
