Happy training for the week of 8/5.
Races: CTC members have been active on the race scene lately. Omitted from the last update, Steve Brusig and Rich Quintero also raced Vineman 70.3 on July 14. More recently, Greg Watkins, Shawn Hughes, and Tammie Watkins raced the Donner Olympic Triathlon on July 28. This past weekend, Tony and Karen English raced the Tri for Fun while Maya and Jack English raced the Tri for KIDS. Congratulations to Maya for winning the series championship in her age group. Also on Sunday, Josh Rowe, Jason Berry, Jim Peplow, Mitch Harrell, & Jeriamee Leeman raced the Tri for Real. Results for all have been posted to the Results page of the website. Please let me know of any errors or omissions.
Race Report: Manny Mejia's race report from Vineman 70.3 has been posted to the website. It's linked from the Results page and can also be viewed here.
CTC on TV: KHSL Channel 12 featured the Chico Tri Club on their Wake-Up! show Monday and Tuesday mornings July 22 and 23. Greg Watkins, Tony English, Maya English, Shawn Hughes, Josh Rowe, and Victoria Uribe woke up very early to appear on the show, which also included footage of a recent track workout. Clips from the show are available here and here.
CTC Training Camp at Lake Almanor: The Almanor Training Camp officially kicks off Wednesday 8/7. Two generous club members have offered the use of a lakefront house for CTC members to use as a training base for the week. The location gives access for open water swimming, fantastic roads for bike training, and numerous trails for running. Rick Ellison has volunteered to coordinate the training activities for the camp. There is still room at the house if anyone wants to join in. Please email me directly (president@chicotriathlonclub.com) as soon as possible if you are interested.
Ironman on TV: In case you missed it, NBC will be re-airing the 2012 IRONMAN World Championship on Sunday, August 25th at 1:30 p.m. EST.
Upcoming Races: Two races on back to back weekends will surely be on the calendars for many CTC members. August 24th is the Granite Bay Triathlon, which is the California Sprint Distance Triathlon Club Championship Race. CTC has fielded a competitive group the past several years, and missed the championship by just a single point in 2011. The following weekend is CTC's traditional club race, the Mount Shasta Tinman, which takes place on Sunday, September 1st at the Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort. Note that Tinman registration closes on August 29th, or whenever they receive 320 applicants, so register now if you're planning to race.
